On the morning of November 7th, IEEE Student Branch Eindhoven (IEEE SBE) had the pleasure of hosting members of IEEE Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (IEEE AUTH). The visit showcased TU Eindhoven’s cutting-edge facilities, fostering a vibrant exchange of knowledge and strengthening ties between two active IEEE student communities.
A Warm Welcome
The day began at 9:30 AM with a warm breakfast, setting the stage for a day filled with engaging activities. Following breakfast, Michalis Spyrou, the Chair of the 41st Board of IEEE SBE, delivered a lecture introducing TU Eindhoven and the local IEEE branch. The presentation highlighted the university’s innovative approach to education and the role of IEEE in promoting collaboration and professional development among engineering students.
Exploring Flux: A Hub of Innovation
At 10:00 AM, the group embarked on a tour of the Flux building, home to TU/e’s Department of Electrical Engineering. The tour included:
- High Voltage Lab: A fascinating demonstration featuring a Tesla coil that produced music, blending science with artistry to showcase the capabilities of high-voltage technology.
- Electromagnetic (EM) Labs: Participants visited the anechoic antenna chamber, a space designed to eliminate electromagnetic interference, where cutting-edge research in wireless communication is conducted.
- CWTe Labs: A highlight of the visit was the presentation by a Greek professor Alexios Balatsoukas
- Search Results and lab manager Vaggelis Zaoutis, who shared insights into advanced wireless technologies developed at the Center for Wireless Technology Eindhoven.
- Clean Rooms in Cascade: A glimpse into the controlled environments where precision engineering and microfabrication take place.
A Campus Tour
At 11:15 AM, the group transitioned to exploring other iconic TU/e buildings:
- Gemini South: The hub of multidisciplinary engineering activities.
- MetaForum: TU/e’s modern library and student center, showcasing architectural brilliance and academic resources.
- Atlas: A sustainable landmark, exemplifying TU/e’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
- Auditorium: A space where students gather for lectures and events, reflecting the vibrant academic culture of the university.
Strengthening Ties
The visit concluded at 12:30 PM with farewells and a renewed sense of camaraderie. IEEE SBE was delighted to host IEEE AUTH and share the university’s facilities and culture. The day not only celebrated engineering and innovation but also underscored the importance of international collaboration in fostering a global IEEE community.
