Every 2 years something magical happens in IEEE region 8. This magical event is the student branch congress, also known as the SBC. This time we went to Regensburg, a small city in Bavaria, Germany. The early morning flight did not make everyone happy, but after arriving at the hotel and resting for a little bit plus a good lunch with a beer, as is a German custom, the congress could really start.
The congress opened with some speeches at the court of a small palace. Among the speeches were Costas the president of region 8 and the president of IEEE himself. After this official opening we went to the Danube and got onto a cruise ship which was almost fully covered with Swarovski crystals. There we had a nice cruise with the local German cuisine and beers.
The next days were filled with plenary sessions, interactive and well-structured workshops and a lot of food, including a gala dinner and a traditional Bavarian dinner. During the gala dinner we got the exemplary student branch award from the hands of the R8 director and the IEEE director.
